A man in his 20s has died after a “targeted” shooting in east London.

The incident happened in Forest Rise, Walthamstow, just before 9.30pm last night.

The Metropolitan Police said they were called to reports of shots fired.

The victim, 25, had already been taken to hospital in a private vehicle when officers arrived, but he later died.

Detective Chief Inspector Laurence Smith said: “This is a completely senseless act which has resulted in the loss of a young man’s life.

“It is important that we speak to anyone who witnessed what happened so that we can give his family the answers they deserve.

“At this early stage in our investigation, we believe this was a targeted attack, but we are keeping an open mind to all possibilities.”

No one has been arrested earlier this afternoon.

Smith added that it was understood a party was going on at a nearby community center at the time of the shooting.

“It is possible that the participants may have seen what happened,” he continued.

“We need you to talk to us.

“Whether you do it anonymously via Crimestoppers or you come to us directly, we need to know what you saw.”

The incident is just the latest violent death to hit the capital.

On July 24, a man was also shot dead in Walthamstow in one of three murders that weekend.

Chief Constable Simon Crick, responsible for Waltham Forest and Newham Police, said: ‘I am deeply saddened and horrified that another young man has lost his life on our streets.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family at this time.

“I am very aware of how worrying this incident will be for our local community.

“Last week several of your officers were deployed to key locations in Waltham Forest to provide high visibility security.

“This will continue this week.”

He added that additional resources had been provided by the force’s violent crime task force.

“Violence suppression continues daily in many ways across Waltham Forest”, Crick explained.

‘Your officers will be close to this tragic event today.

“I encourage anyone with any concerns or information to speak to them.”
