Micah Richards has heaped praise on Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus after the Brazilian striker produced a sensational performance as the Gunners defeated Leicester 4-2 at the Emirates.

Jesus scored twice on his home debut for Mikel Arteta’s side and was unlucky not to complete his hat-trick in the six-goal thriller.

After the match, Richards hailed Jesu’s ‘sensational’ performance, saying he was like a ‘different player’ compared to his time at Manchester City:

Micah Richards hailed Gabriel Jesus’ “brilliant” performance in Arsenal’s win over Leicester

“He was sensational. Everything he did was brilliant.

“I saw him at Manchester City but at Arsenal he seems like a different player,” added Richards.

“He seems much more confident. He was unlucky not to get his hat-trick. He has everything in his game.

Despite winning four Premier League titles during his time with the Citizens, Jesus was unable to find a consistent place in the starting eleven under Pep Guardiola, with the Spanish boss often preferring to use him as a striker off the bench.

At Arsenal, however, in just two league appearances, Jesus has established himself as one of the Gunners’ key players as Arteta looks to build on the club’s fifth-place finish last season.

Richards explained his delight at seeing the Brazil international demonstrate his class at his new club:

“I’m just happy for him because at Man City he gave so much in terms of work rate, but now it feels like he’s the main man. A big day for him, it really was.

Speaking after the win, Arteta explained that despite his exceptional performance in front of goal, the star man regretted missed chances.

“We know what Gabi can do,” said Arteta.

He is disappointed in the dressing room because he said he could have scored four. That’s the standard, that’s the mentality you need. I don’t want to play against him. So mobile, so intuitive, always sharp. He raises the standard, the way he trains every day.’

Arsenal will look to continue their unbeaten start to the Premier League season when they travel to newly promoted Bournemouth on Saturday.
