Manchester United ‘contact Mauro Icardi’s representatives over potential Old Trafford move, with PSG striker keen on Premier League switch’… as Erik ten Hag looks to fix misfire attack

  • Manchester United are reportedly interested in PSG’s Mauro Icardi
  • They have contacted Icardi’s representatives to assess his availability
  • Icardi is believed to be keen on a move to England to join the Old Trafford club
  • New manager Erik ten Hag is looking to solve the problems with his team in front of goal
  • United have only scored once this season and are at the bottom of the league table

Manchester United have reportedly contacted PSG striker Mauro Icardi’s representatives via intermediaries, as the Premier League club’s search for a new striker continues.

Icardi has been left out of PSG’s matchday squad for their first two Ligue 1 games of the season and manager Christophe Galtier has confirmed the 29-year-old is free to leave.

United are showing interest in the Argentine striker, and Icardi is keen on a move to Old Trafford, according to the report Get French football news.

However, it is understood that PSG feel Icardi is not United’s top target and the Red Devils have yet to make direct contact with the French champions.

The interest in Icardi comes amid a disastrous start to the season for United, which has seen them lose both of their top-flight games against Brighton and Brentford.

The 13-time Premier League champions are currently rooted to the foot of the table after they were beaten 4-0 by Brentford on Saturday.

Erik ten Hag’s side have conceded six goals in two games, but scoring goals at the other end is also a big deal, leaving United desperately searching for a new frontman in the transfer market.

Cristiano Ronaldo told the club last month he wants to leave and he was left out of the starting line-up for the team’s opening game against Brighton, with his future at Old Trafford still uncertain.

Meanwhile, Anthony Martial is sidelined with a hamstring injury, leaving ten Hag short of options up top.

United’s lack of firepower goes some way to explaining why they have only scored one goal this season, and that was an own goal from Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister.

The club were linked with Bologna’s Marko Arnautovic last week, but they opted to back out of a potential deal after failing to agree a fee with the Serie A outfit.

They may now have turned their attention to Icardi, who has played for some of the biggest teams in Europe during his career to date.

He spent six years at Inter between 2013 and 2019, scoring 124 goals in 319 appearances.

Icardi has since played for PSG for the past three years, including an initial loan spell, scoring 38 goals in 92 games, but is now considered surplus to requirements in the French capital.
