In a statement posted on their website, MUST called the club’s loss at Brentford a “humiliation”:

Despite Ten Hag’s side failing to find their footing so far this season following back-to-back Premier League defeats, the Trust placed the blame for the club’s decline squarely on the presiding Glazer family.

‘MUST hold the owners of the club primarily responsible for this new low in our decade of decline. Sir Alex put paper over the cracks, but since 2013 the consequences of our owners have been clear to see.’

Originally formed in 1998 to protest Ruport Mudoch’s planned takeover of the club, the group has since grown into the largest group of its kind in the UK.

In the years following the Glazer family’s purchase of United in 2005, MUST has turned its attention to seeking a more democratic model of fan involvement in the running of the club, advocating for United to adopt the 50+1 model seen in The Bundesliga where the clubs are required to retain at least 50% plus one share of their voting rights.

In its statement, MUST further demanded that ‘urgent and radical’ changes take place at the club:

“On behalf of Manchester United fans everywhere, we demand urgent and radical change. And we as fans – all of us – need to stick together. The unity of the fans, with one voice aimed at the owners and the club, is needed more than ever right now.’

We don’t usually comment on matches, but extraordinary times call for a different approach…

What we have witnessed tonight is an embarrassment – no, a humiliation – for Manchester United fans. And yet in many ways it was not a surprise. It feels like the culmination of a long-term journey.

MUST hold the owners of the club primarily responsible for this new low in our decade of decline. Sir Alex papered over the cracks, but since 2013 the consequences for our owners have been clear to see.

On behalf of Manchester United fans everywhere, we demand urgent and radical change. And we as fans – all of us – need to stick together. The unity of the fans, with one voice aimed at the owners and the club, is needed more than ever right now.

Finally, as the fans in the ground showed today, we will always support the shirts. Support the team and defend the club. Our flag is the deepest red, and we will never die.
